Features Three Composites Thought Leaders EVENTS NOT TO MISS theCAMX.org Anaheim, CA | Anaheim Convention Center IN ASSOCIATION WITH e CAMX General Session, happening this morning at 8:30 a.m. on Level 3, Ballroom B and sponsored by Owens Corning, has a new format. Called CAMX Live!, the General Session will feature three inno- vators who use composites and advanced materials to make a positive impact on the world. ese three individuals are: • Daniel Preston, CEO and CTO of Luminati Aerospace, a new company dedicated to bringing Internet connectivity to all areas of the world. He and his team are developing high-altitude, long-endur- ance (HALE) unmanned vehicles that will harvest energy from wind gusts to stay aloft. e vehicles will be constructed of carbon fiber composites supplied by Hexcel using automated layup methods. • Gregory Haye, general manager at Local Motors, is overseeing his company's development of vehicles built via additive manufacturing methods and advanced materials, with a goal of reducing impact on the environment. • Greg Lynn, named one of the 10 most influential architects living today, according to Forbes magazine, is at the forefront of creating fresh, func- tional and unusual designs and structures with composite materials. is TED Talk-styled event is designed to expose attendees to cutting- edge composite innovation and inspire them—you—to pursue new market opportunities, says Gregg Balko, SAMPE CEO. SAMPE also announced the George Lubin Memorial Award winner. is year's SAMPE Fellow honorees are Prof. Paolo Ermanni, ETH Polytechnic (Zurich, Switzerland); Michael Maher, DARPA program manager; and Dr. Zhongmin Xue, Sinoma Science and Technology (Beijing, China). e George Lubin Memorial Award winner is Dr. John Tracy, CTO of e Boeing Co. e Fellow Award is given to SAMPE members for distinguished contribu- tions in the fields of materials and processes. Ermanni is a recognized leader in advanced composite research. His research bridges material science and engineering applications, covering design, modeling and fabrication of adaptive material systems and lightweight structures.
